How to deal with the corn stalk? Most people use silage baling machine to wrap it into bundles so as to store it for a long time? What’s the current situation and value of corn silage?
The value of corn silage
The corn silage is one of the indispensable basic feeds for the development of grass-fed livestock. Especially in recent years, as China accelerates the industrialization of agricultural areas, the development of corn silage feed has become increasingly important. After using the silage baling machine, the corn stalks will be processed to soften the stalks, and keep them green and juicy for a long time. The processed silage has a clear aromatic odor, which greatly improves the palatability of the straw. Corn silage feed can preserve the nutrients to the greatest extent, and generally only 3% -10% of the nutrients are lost. The loss of crude protein and carotene is less. However, the dried corn stalk feed can lose 30% -50% of nutrients, and almost all the vitamins in the raw materials are lost.
The main difference between silage corn feed and air-dried corn stover feed
Compared with air-dried corn stover feed, the crude protein of corn silage is about 1 times higher, crude fat is about 4 times higher, and crude fiber is about 7.5% lower. After processing the silage corn stalk, the crude protein content in the feed can increase by 3.4% -16.4%. The crude fiber content decreases significantly, and the digestibility of organic matter increases by 4.8% -15.4%. importantly, the digestive energy increases by 0.23-0.62MC, and the metabolic energy increases by 0.19 -0.56MC.
Cultivation and utilization of corn silage
At present, the developed areas of animal husbandry in the world to feed dairy cows, beef cattle, dairy sheep and mutton sheep are the United States, Europe, Canada and Japan. Silage corn is planted in large quantities with wide application, which greatly promotes the development of herbivorous livestock. For example, the United States planted silage corn 2.52 * 107hm2. From 1988 to 1997, they planted 2 * 106hm2, and most of them was used to make silage corn feed, accounting for about 8% of the planted area. The use of silage corn forage production varies greatly due to the development of herbivorous livestock in different regions. The proportion of silage corn forage in California and Europe accounts for 56% and 47% . France grows silage corn 15 * 106hm2 annually. Italy grows 3.5 * 105hm2, and Germany grows 9.3 * 105hm2, which accounts for more than 80% of the corn planting area. All those countries use silage baling machine to process the corn silage and other grasses.
